How to Archive or Restore a Reference

Written by Poppy Wooddissee

This article explains how to archive a reference to hide it from the request, and how to restore an archived reference.

What is Archiving a Reference?

Archiving a reference allows you to hide a completed reference from a request without permanently deleting it. This is useful when:

  • A reference is no longer relevant

  • You received a duplicate reference

  • You want to temporarily remove a reference from view

Archived references can be restored at any time.

How to Archive a Reference

From the Reference Report:

  1. Navigate to the Requests page

  1. Click on the request containing the reference you want to archive

  1. Click on the completed reference to open the Reference Report

  1. Next to the referee's name, click the more options icon (three horizontal dots)

  1. Select Archive Reference from the menu

  1. A confirmation dialog will appear asking "Are you sure you want to archive this reference?"

  1. Click Yes, Archive to confirm

You will see a success message confirming "Reference archived successfully".

How to Restore an Archived Reference

When viewing an archived reference, you will see a banner stating "This reference has been archived."

Option 1: Using the Unarchive button on the banner

  1. Open the archived reference report

  1. Click the Unarchive button displayed on the archived reference banner

Option 2: Using the menu

  1. Open the archived reference report

  1. Click the more options icon (three horizontal dots) next to the referee's name

  1. Select Restore Reference from the menu

  1. A confirmation dialog will appear asking "Are you sure you want to restore this reference?"

  1. Click Yes, Restore to confirm

You will see a success message confirming "Reference restored successfully".

Important Notes

  • Archiving a reference does not delete it permanently

  • Archived references can be restored at any time

  • The archive/restore action is available on both completed references and uploaded PDF references
