How to Preview Questions

Written by Poppy Wooddissee

Previewing your question profile lets you see exactly how questions will appear to referees/candidates before sending reference requests. This helps you test conditional logic, check question order, and ensure everything works as expected.

Accessing the Preview

  1. Navigate to your Question Profiles page

  2. Open the question profile you want to preview

  3. Click the "Preview" button in the top right corner of the profile header

  4. Select "Questions Preview" from the dropdown menu

Using the Preview Dialog

The preview dialog shows your questions exactly as referees will see them. You can:

1. Select Reference Type

Use the "Reference Type" dropdown to preview how questions appear for different reference types:

  • Professional: Shows professional reference questions

  • Personal: Shows personal reference questions

  • Academic: Shows academic/educational reference questions

  • Candidate: Shows candidate-facing questions

2. Select Language

Use the "Language" dropdown to preview questions in different languages. This is useful if you've set up multilingual question profiles.

3. Test Conditional Logic

Answer questions in the preview to see how conditional questions appear and disappear based on your conditions. For example:

  • If you have a rating question followed by a conditional "Why so low?" question, select a low rating to see the conditional question appear

  • Test different combinations of answers to ensure your AND/OR conditions work correctly

4. Test Form Validation

Click the "Test Submit" button to test if required fields are properly validated. This helps ensure referees/canddiates won't be able to submit incomplete forms.

What You'll See

  • Question order: Questions appear in the exact order they'll be shown to referees

  • Question text: All question text as it will appear, including any placeholders like [candidate_name]

  • Answer options: All dropdown, radio, and other answer options

  • Conditional logic: Questions that show or hide based on previous answers

  • Required fields: Visual indicators for questions marked as required

Tips

  • Test thoroughly: Try different answer combinations to ensure conditional logic works as expected

  • Check all reference types: Preview each reference type if your profile includes questions specific to different types

  • Test validation: Use "Test Submit" to ensure required fields are properly enforced

  • Review question order: Make sure questions flow logically and conditional questions appear after the questions they depend on

  • Check translations: If using multiple languages, preview each language to ensure translations are correct
