Setting Up Conditional Questions

Written by Poppy Wooddissee

Conditional questions allow you to show or hide questions based on answers to previous questions. This helps you create dynamic forms that adapt to user responses.

What are Conditional Questions?

A conditional question will only appear when specific conditions are met. For example, if someone selects "Poor" for a rating question, you can show a follow-up question asking "Why did you answer so low?"

Requirements

  • The question you want to base the condition on must be a Dropdown or Radio List question type

  • The conditional question must appear after the question it depends on in the question order

How to Set Up Conditional Logic

  1. Create or edit a question that you want to make conditional

  2. Scroll down to the "Conditional Logic" section

  3. Click "Add Conditional Logic"

  4. You'll see one type of condition:

    • AND conditions: All conditions must be true for the question to show

  5. For each condition:

    • Select the question you want to base the condition on (from the dropdown)

    • Choose the operator: "is" or "is not"

    • Select one or more values that trigger the condition

  6. Click "Save" to apply the conditional logic

Examples

Example 1: Management Experience

  • Question: "Did they have direct reports?" β†’ If "Yes", show: "How many people did they manage?"

Example 2: Performance Issues

  • Question: "Would you rehire them?" β†’ If "No", show: "What were the main reasons you wouldn't rehire them?"

Example 3: Specific Skills

  • Question: "What was their primary role?" β†’ If "Sales" or "Business Development", show: "What was their average monthly sales target?"

Tips

  • You can combine AND conditions for complex logic

  • The question will only display if all conditions are met

  • Test your conditional logic by previewing the question profile before sending it to referees
